Donald Trump Makes Himself the Victim in the Puerto Rico Crisis

Cruz had been among the harshest critics of Trump's response to hurricanes Irma and Maria, which have killed at least 16 people and left millions across Puerto Rico without food, water and electricity in recent weeks.

She worked as an adviser to the San Juan mayor and the president of Puerto Rico's House of representatives, according to her biography.

Ms Cruz told the media on Friday to "make sure somebody is in charge that is up to the task of saving lives". In Trump's initial outburst, he said that Cruz was being "nasty" and that she and others in Puerto Rico "want everything to be done for them" in the aftermath of the storm.

Donald Trump has been copping it even more than usual today for a series of Tweets concerning the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico, and even Kim Kardashian, who has pledged her support for the people of the troubled US territory, has joined the chorus of those criticising him.

President Trump's hometown newspaper is siding with other NY celebrity, Lin Manuel Miranda, over Trump's response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

While much of the USA territory of 3.4 million remained without power, fresh water or communications links long after the catastrophic passage of Hurricane Maria, reports continued to filter in of battered towns across the island that have yet to receive any aid. "Let us not talk about the debt, let us not talk about the cost of reconstruction, let's just talk about saving lives right now", Cruz said.

The leader of Puerto Rico's capital city says she knows "the good heart of the American people and I know that when a mayday sound goes off, they come to the rescue".

Power is still out and water is scarce for numerous island's three million residents.

"He is looking for excuses for things not going well", she said.

Ousted Thai PM Yingluck sentenced in absentia to 5 years for negligence
When Ms Yingluck surprisingly failed to show up in court, the verdict was postponed and an arrest warrant was issued for her. In the scheme, Yingluck's government paid Thai rice farmers inflated prices for their crops, driving up global rice prices.

Trump Hails Saudi 'Positive Step' Allowing Women To Drive
He says Saudi Arabia will recognise driver's licenses issued to women in other Gulf Cooperation Council countries. There's a lot of work that still needs to be done in order to achieve gender equality in Saudi Arabia.

Trump expands travel ban to include North Korea, Venezuela and Chad
Announcement of the ban came in July, following the death of USA college student Otto Warmbier. The revised ban will come into effect immediately after the end of the initial 90-day period.

Another tweet from Miranda, whose father is from Puerto Rico, saw him reference Mr Trump's attendance at his golf club in New Jersey. Just today I was telling you we had to evacuate yet another hospital because the generator caught on fire - so this is another hospital that will not be able to work for another week.

At a briefing in San Juan, Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello reported that fuel and food supplies had begun to arrive in Puerto Rico.

As the days pass since Hurricane Maria ripped across Puerto Rico, television reports increasingly echo those after Katrina a dozen years ago in sounding the alarm for a desperate population frustrated by the pace of relief efforts.

In a report from central Puerto Rico this week, CNN's Leyla Santiago repeatedly emphasized that residents were USA citizens. And you are killing us with the inefficiency.

The devastation is likely to lead more people to leave, and as the population decreases, so does the tax base, economists said.

Duke also tried to move on from the remarks she made Thursday in which she called the federal relief effort a "good-news story".

Trump is out with a series of tweets criticizing San Juan Carmen Yulin Cruz for criticizing the Trump administration's hurricane response. FEMA Administrator Brock Long defended his agency's response in a Sunday interview on "This Week", saying Cruz needs to be more engaged with coordination efforts on the island by meeting regularly at a joint field office established by the agency.

Trump is expected to survey the damage on the island on Tuesday.

Cruz also said she and her family are staying at the Coliseum in San Juan, along with more than 600 people.
