Insane golfers fearless erupting volcano in Hawaii to sneak in a round

Two separate organizations are managing the issues surrounding the eruption of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

An aviation red alert means a volcanic eruption is under way that could spew ash along aircraft routes, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) says on its website.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports rock falls and gas explosions within Halemaumau Crater have caused an ash plume which is carrying ash downstream across the Kau District.

These latest threats add to the long list of hazards the residents of Big Island have already been met with.

Down Highway 11, the main artery connecting the east and west side of the Big Island, a string of cars sit near the entrance of Volcano National Park.

And it could send ash plumes as far as 12 miles from the summit crater, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.

Given that Hawaii is a popular golf vacation destination, it is yet to be seen how many courses will be damaged once the eruption is complete.

The alert is the highest caution level for volcanic activity, issued when an eruption is forecast or has begun.

The fissures we have been hearing about that are producing toxic gasses and lava flows are on private land on the big island, the Island of Hawaii. If the lava activity continues into the dry season wildfire potential may increase.

Officials also reported Tuesday that a new lava fissure opened in the Lanipuna Gardens subdivision near Leilani Estates.

The eruption started on May 3 and around 20 fissures have opened up since then, with the lava destroying dozens of homes. Almost 20 fissures have opened up in those two subdivisions, destroying more than two dozen homes since the eruption began May 3.

Almost two weeks after the fissures began to open up, geologists continued to watch Kilauea's main crater amid the possibility that a violent eruption was coming.
