Serena made light work of Julia Goerges in the semi-final 6-2, 6-4 and is starting as the favourite to add to her tally of 23 Grand Slam titles in what will be her 10th Wimbledon final. I'm only just getting started.
Serena Williams has been saying it over and over and over: Wimbledon is only her fourth tournament since returning to the tour after having a baby.
The left-hander struggled to deal with the added focus past year, though, when she failed to win a title and slid from number one to 21 in the rankings. "I learned a lot from previous year, with all the expectations, all the things I go through".
Playing her first slam final since the 2017 Australian Open, which she won while two months pregnant, in only her fourth tournament back, it was perhaps no surprise that Williams started nervously.
Asked about the historic dimensions of her potential triumph this weekend, Serena played down the implications to avoid giving her opponent even more motivation.
And even with all that, she only lost a Wimbledon final 6-3, 6-3 to a future tennis Hall of Famer. "And to hold this trophy now, it is something that I can't describe".
"I'm sure you will have your next Grand Slam title soon", said Kerber, now a three-time major champion.
Kerber entered the final leading all the players in the ladies' main draw with her percentage of returns in (88 per cent) and managed to clinch 61% of second serve return points, a far superior rate to Williams' 51%.

'I'm completely a supporter of women, and women's sport obviously, ' Williams said.
"We've always had a wonderful friendship", Williams told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week. "I still feel like I'm in that place", Williams said. "But now I am just trying to [improve] my game, thinking not too much about the results, trying to be a better tennis player, a better person, and I'm trying to enjoy tennis again".
With compatriot Meghan Markle, whose marriage to Britain's Prince Harry Serena attended this year, watching from the Royal Box the stage seemed set for another memorable day in the fairytale career of Williams.
Kerber has been just as dominant as Williams in the Wimbledon tournament heading into the final.
She had dropped just one set en route to the final, as had Kerber, but had not faced anyone with the pedigree of the German who had experienced a Grand Slam final victory over the American, at the 2016 Australian Open.
Two years after losing to Williams with a title on the line at Centre Court, Kerber came through.
The left-hander scurried along the baseline, this way and that, using a combination of quickness and anticipation to track down what often appeared to be winners for Williams but were not enough to end a point. "I'll probably change the ending!"
