I Gave Up ‘Nothing’ In Russia Summit

Barletta attacked Democrats - who had criticized Trump's suggestion at the Helsinki summit that he believes Putin's denial of interfering in the 2016 elections - and, echoing the White House, Barletta stressed the potential for U.S. -Russia cooperation in world affairs. By way of comparison, in the Post-Schar School survey, 87 percent of Republicans said they approved of Trump's overall job performance as president.

"When you hear the Fake News talking negatively about my meeting with President Putin, and all that I gave up, remember, I gave up NOTHING, we merely talked about future benefits for both countries", Trump posted on his Twitter account.

Trump adds on the Putin meeting: "Also, we got along very well, which is a good thing, except for the Corrupt Media!"

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was responding to Trump's apparent acceptance during a news conference last week of Putin's denial that Russian Federation attempted influence the 2016 election.

"The disconnect can not continue", Gowdy said on Fox News on Sunday (Monday NZT).

"President Putin, he just said it's not Russian Federation".

"The evidence is overwhelming", Gowdy said.

Barletta, who is running for Senate with the expectation of substantial support from Trump, hails from a northeastern Pennsylvania congressional district that strongly backed Trump in 2016.

While defending the Putin meeting, Trump again called for ending the Mueller probe.

Trump denies there was any collusion and has described Mueller's probe as a "witch hunt" meant to detract from his election victory. "They should drop the discredited Mueller Witch Hunt now!" Trump said in one tweet on Monday (Tuesday NZT).

That comes after a week of drama, back tracking, a double negative and blistering statements from allies about his attitude toward Russian election interference.

For his part, Barletta said in a statement released by his campaign that he, too, agrees with USA intelligence agencies, and that he will "continue to do everything I can" to prevent Russian Federation from doing so again.

Dealing with the fallout from two summits at once, President Donald Trump says he's "very happy" with the pace of North Korea's denuclearization, despite Kim Jong Un having taken no major steps toward that aim since their summit in Singapore last month.

There's no other way "to explain why he would side with this Kremlin former KGB officer rather than his own intelligence agencies", Schiff said.
