Lewandowski: I warned Trump about Cohen

Monday, 27 Aug, 2018

The verdict and the guilty plea occurred within minutes of one another on Tuesday afternoon, and Cohen directly implicated the president in a pair of campaign finance violations related to his arrangement in 2016 to silence two women who say they had affairs with Trump years earlier.

According to prosecutors, Cohen sent an invoice to Executive 1, meaning Weisselberg, for "Payment for services rendered for the month of January and February, 2017", a payment that was really meant to reimburse Cohen for a payment to Stormy Daniels. Cohen said under oath that Trump directed him to violate campaign-finance laws just before the 2016 presidential election in order to boost his candidacy.

A person close to the Trump family who requested anonymity to describe private discussions said Weisselberg is viewed with the highest respect by family, calling him "truly a class act".

This is why the news that Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance is considering pursuing charges against the Trump Organization may be such a significant development.

And Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg has also been granted immunity in exchange for cooperation with the Cohen investigation.

The Manafort charges stem nearly completely from his personal businesses but they came to light after he went to work for Trump.

Weisselberg, the 71-year-old Trump Organisation CFO, is intimately familiar with Trump's business dealings, having overseen his corporate ledgers through his rise in the NY real estate world and his global dealings in the years before he launched his presidential bid.

Mueller recommends up to 6 months for ex-Trump campaign aide Papadopoulos
Mueller's office has not yet filed a sentencing memo in the case of Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. That's despite the fact prosecutors said Papadopoulos did not provide "substantial assistance" after his guilty plea.

Air quality to worsen in Northwest as smoke returns
Smoke concentrations may vary widely across the region, depending on the wind, the temperature, and wildfire activity. Areas such as Squamish, Whistler, Nanaimo/Parksville and Castlegar also have a 10-plus air-quality rating.

Russia Says All Uninvited Foreign Troops Operating in Syria Must Leave
Bolton also noted that the US under President Donald Trump had twice struck at Syria for its use of proscribed chemical weapons. Russian Federation has previously called it "absolutely unrealistic" to expect a complete Iranian withdrawal from the country.

Two executives at American Media Inc, which publishes the National Enquirer, a tabloid reportedly involved in making the payments, have also been granted immunity in the investigation. Though Cohen has already been charged with tax crimes on the federal level, the state attorney general's office can bring its own set of charges because NY state's double jeopardy laws don't apply to tax crimes. The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Cohen has indicated he may cooperate with that inquiry.

Separately, federal prosecutors in NY granted immunity to tabloid executive and longtime Trump friend David Pecker to discuss Cohen's case. "Trump certainly would not have authorized the payments unless he thought it was politically imperative to do so". The tax department subpoenaed Cohen this week.

The Trump administration had a long week, but you wouldn't know that if you looked at President Donald Trump's approval ratings.

Through his lawyer, Cohen said collecting contributions through a GoFundMe page set up after his guilty plea this week is the only way to ensure the truth comes out about the president.

"Former Enquirer employees who spoke to the AP said that negative stories about Trump were dead on arrival dating back more than a decade when he starred on NBC's reality show "The Apprentice". Trump has routinely denounced the probe as a "witch hunt".

"Thirteen references to Mr. Cohen are false in the dossier, but he has never been to Prague in his life", Davis said Wednesday in an interview on Bloomberg TV noted by the Daily Caller.

Manafort faces another trial in Washington next month on separate charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering and witness tampering.
