Primary Day in NYC: A breakdown of the races

Nixon has never officially supported BDS, but in 2010 signed a letter with a 150 other USA actors, directors and artists voicing her support for Israeli actors who refused to perform in the Jewish state's controversial settlements in the West Bank. Though she's always been an activist for her favored causes of education and same-sex marriage, running for office is new to her.

But Nixon believes she can pull off an upset like other insurgent challengers have in Democratic primaries this year.

The planned opening of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge to replace the old Tappan Zee Bridge between Westchester and Rockland counties was supposed to bolster Cuomo's image as a can-do governor, but a last-minute delay changed that narrative.

While the contours of the Democratic race in NY look similar to those upsets, Nixon, best known for her Emmy-winning role on HBO's "Sex and the City", has steadily trailed Cuomo by 30 points or more in opinion polls. Cuomo denied knowledge of the mailer, but the New York Post reported that one of Cuomo's closest advisers was the one who approved it - calling his denial into question.

"Our politics need to reflect our world + with women speaking up every day about and against mistreatment (often at the most systemic and deeply entrenched levels), fighting tirelessly for a seat at the table, Cynthia Nixon & the incredible success of this campaign so far has proven that women's voices need to be lifted up & represented at every level of government, now more than ever", Dunham added. I said that as soon as it came to light, as soon as I saw it. "She was a fine actor, but not a great gubernatorial candidate", he said. They are seeking the Democratic nomination to be New York's attorney general.

In the lieutenant governor's race, City Councilman Jumaane Williams is looking to unseat incumbent Kathy Hochul. "The governor holds a lot more responsibility over the trains than he wants to admit", said Morgan Hargrove. They might not think she can win, but a vote for her might convince be a warning to Cuomo to clean up his act.

That puts her in the company of her cousin, Sen. Public advocate Letitia James, law professor Zephyr Teachout, represenative Sean Patrick Maloney, and attorney Leecia Eve are competing for the spot.

Democrats across NY are choosing their candidates for governor, attorney general and the state Legislature in the nation's last primary election of 2018.

He's spent millions on ads and tried to make the race about President Trump, arguing that he was the best qualified to govern and push back against the White House.
