Hudson Trindall, a pupil at Regency Performing Arts in Margate, plays a young Elton John in the commercial, which was released today and shows different actors taking on the legendary musician through the years, including an appearance from Elton himself for the present-day scenes. We then see a series of flashbacks from throughout his career, showcasing various performances of the track and its initial studio recording.
It's not the first time that "Your Song" has been used in a John Lewis Christmas advert, as Ellie Goulding's cover was used back in 2010.
The John Lewis Christmas ad 2018, is probably its strongest one in years.
Speculation has been rife over the past few months as to not only the soundtrack but to the idea of the advert too, with many correctly guessing that Elton John was the chosen one.

Having reportedly donated his £5 million fee to his charity, the Elton John Charitable Trust, Elton's husband David Furnish admitted that making the ad was an emotional experience for the star.
While the ad is of course still just an ad, which The Telegraph notes is created to promote the fact that John Lewis is selling pianos for the first time in 70 years, it's an excellent reminder that gifts can be powerful things.
